Beyonce’s predicted first week sales are now in…

Hits Daily Double have now released their first week sales predictions for Beyonce‘s new album ’4′…

The odds were stacked against Beyonce after her album leaked online three weeks early, only for it not to have any commercial hit singles. She’s had a decent promo machine behind her in the US including her countless magazine photoshoots, a Target commercial, performances at The Billboard Music Awards, The BET Awards and The Oprah Winfrey Show, performances and video premiere on ‘American Idol’ and an interview with Piers Morgan.

Predicted numbers currently stand at 275-300,000 units (her lowest first week sales to date). She’ll be doing the same first week numbers as Britney Spears and Chris Brown and cementing Adele and Lady Gaga as the sales dominators for the year so far.

My twitter followers asked me yesterday what MY predictions were. I said 300-350k (close enough). While these numbers are okay-ish, I personally feel she sold those numbers on name alone and she may very well end up struggling in her second week. For some reason her new music just didn’t catch on with the casual listener despite artistically putting out age appropriate music (music she actually wanted to do).

She is nearly 30 now so it is commendable she took that into consideration when crafting out the risky direction of her new album. The singer is realising that she is at a period in her life where she no longer has to prove herself or follow trends to get ahead. She is the ultimate powerhouse in vocals and stage entertainment soaring past all of her same-age contemporaries in the process.

The album will debut at #1 in as many as 14 countries, including the US and the UK. It will also finish in the Top 3 worldwide. The project also went triple-platinum in Brazil on its first day of sale, while UK projections are at 90,000 copies in its first week. This more than doubles what she sold with ‘I Am…Sasha Fierce’ (Glastonbury was definetely her saving grace). The album’s second single, ‘Best Thing I Never Had’ is #1 on the UK iTunes charts and currently sits at #58 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #29 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs charts.

She has also lined up US promo this week including a special MTV documentary titled ‘Year Of 4′ which will air tonight on MTV, BET, VH1 and Palladia (7:30pm ET/PT). Her new music video for ‘Best Thing I Never Had’ will premiere on VEVO later today and on July 1st, she’ll be performing live on Good Morning America‘s concert series.

Considering the fact that the album leaked, those numbers are fair. Not to mention, Beyonce has never sells HUGE first week but she’s very consistent, so I’m confident that she’ll be successful with this one.

I think these numbers are about right. The album isn’t all that mainstream but i respect her craft on this album. Either way, the album will be number #1 on BIllboard. That is an accomplishment within its self, considering the leak. Good job Fans and Stans.

well Rihanna sold 207,000 first week and J-Hud sold 165,000 and Fantasia just a home wrecker (had to squeeze that in). I feel a lot of artist are not selling as they once did, which is sad because for some their music is actually getting better. I love beyonce new album 4 there’s growth on it, except RTW. J-Hud latest album is her best as well! Ri-Ri Rated R is her best IMO! These numbers are amazing.

But for Beyonce, they are just OK. An artist like Beyonce needs to be selling no less that 400k first week, so these are dissapointing. But you do have to take into consideration that she had very little promotion and no hit singles.

Um! excuse me? Beyonce has had promo galore. What are you talking about? I like Beyonce, but don’t act like she hasn’t been on the grind with all those appearances on American Idol, Billboard awards, Oprah, CNN, releasing that Pulse fragrance, and performing at Glastonbury. That’s some major promotion and she’s only pulling in 275+ the first week. I think Beyonce’s fading. She needs to seriously re-invent herself like Michael Jackson and Madonna did if she wants to be a lasting icon.

For Beyonce these numbers are horrible the album is as well its too filled with ballads that are all oversung, I was truely disappointed.

Alicia Keys’ “The Element of Freedom’ had two flop singles and still debuted with 417,000. So I must ask who is the real Queen or King?

Beyonce needs to ditch the blonde for the dark brown she had in the Green Light video and Make an album that mixes B’day with Dangerously in Love.

@Darslow…I’mma spell it out for your dumb ass: the little promo she did OVER A MONTH AGO is not the typical promo expected from any artist who’s album is about to drop. Last era, she was everywhere, performing on every show in the weeks leading up to the release. The week before ’4′ dropped Bey has been in Europe and the UK. And as big as Glastonbury is, the only folks in the US who actually gave a shit about it this year are Bey stans…and obsessed haters like you. What kind of promo does and interview with Piers Morgan really count for? She didn’t even perform on his show. Yes she performed on AI and Billboard, but even when her album leaked there were many who STILL DID NOT KNOW HER ALBUM WAS COMING OUT.

and Alicia Keys has NEVER crossed over….she has a SOLID rnb/soul fan base. That’s like comparing Tina Turner to Tina Marie. how could ANYONE compare the two? Alicia has NEVER did pop so……KILL THAT.

Those numbers are grea for Bey. She has no #1 singles and still debut at #1. Rihanna had a #1 single and Loud could make to #1 or 2 first wee and only sold 207 000 copies. Yes the numbers are lower than all her other albums but it still better than most. I have news for Beyonce none of these songs are great. She really think RTWG is a song that will last is she serious. Bey played herself with this new music talk. There is nothing new about what she did. The album is R&B boring. Her fans are supporting her and that’s all an artist need. I definately will not buy 4 not my cup a tea. NEXT!

you OBVIOUSLY missed the point. Beyonce lost her rnb/hip hop sound during the IASF era, for a more mainstream, international, pop sound. Now that she has took exit left, her mainstream audience is “disappointed and dislike” her new music. As I stated before Alicia Keys has NEVER attempted to switch markets which means her targeted audience NEVER had to shift and reshift again. Rihanna, from the beginning was labeled as “pop”, so she never had a split fan base either. The ONLY two artists out today that have a split fan base is BEYONCE and USHER. Because they abandonded their original sounds and split their markets into rnb/pop.

Her number decrease each time b/c the music is static – I know this is “SUPPOSED” to be mature just because people keep saying “it’s mature” but really? is it? I found Dangerous in Love to be her most mature album – her coming out. Adele’s album is very mature and it’s selling like hotcakes so I don’t buy that. i think people have pigeon-holed her and she has wallowed in it and her numbers are declining. It’s not like her career is OVER – her album is just not that great.

No IASF outsold both of them. And as much as you may like those two other albums. Doing the same type of sound and music one did before is not what REAL ARTISTS do. So yes, her doing a mashup of her previous albums would be safe AND chaotic. For one she would simply be going back to her old sound and potentially producing an album that was not as mature and cohesive in sound as ’4′.

As far as I’m concerned, folks who want Beyonce to do the same uptempos and RnB jams she did before don’t care about her growth as an artist. This is Beyonce ‘s best album to date and IDGAF…I stand by that. It may not be your thing and you don’t have to like it, but don’t attempt to dismiss an artist because they take a different direction from what you expected of them. Cuz typically when artists do that its because they’ve jumped on trends to keep up with what’s hot …what mainstream acts are doing and you certainly can’t say that about ’4′.

Furthermore, you’ve somehow failed to take note of the fact that Bey has been in this business for 15 years. She’s been around long enough to see some of her contemporaries lose the support that they once had and struggle to make a comeback…she knows what mainstream wants and what will smash the charts. My point is, Beyonce could’ve easily cranked out an album packed with radio food, but she chose not to. The fact that she chose to make a non-commercial album given the climate of the present music industry speaks volumes …Is that enough “logic and reasoning” for you?

I agree about Beyonce and Usher having a split fanbase. But you forgot about Mariah who is not yet out of the game just on maternity leave. I actually feel she has the most diverse/difficult to please fanbase. She not only has to please the Urban R&B market and the Pop market but she has a lot of fans who are used to her of Adult Contemporary and MOR/Soul music. If she tries to blend in to what’s hot (electro-dance) she’ll be shunned by her older fanbase for not singing or they will say she lost her singing ability. If she releases strong ballads she’ll be considered old news. I’m actually very interested to see what she does next. Its a shame she hasn’t put a release date for people to look forward to. As for Beyonce I agree with most that her album is just not very good hence the low but decent predictions for album sales.

No one is saying do the same uptempos with the majority of the B’day album she used a live band and that really complimented her voice and in DIL she had ballads and some were powerful and some were light and sweet. THAT is why I want an album lthat mashes DIL & B’day from her there is nothing wrong with having a niche and experimenting a little, its better than shifting from genre to genre the only artist who seems to be able to get away with that is Rihanna and many do not consider her an artist because of it. Your last post directed at me is more logical and resonable because you took time to make a statement and not just assume and accuse me of wanting to see her fail. You however need to understand that with the industry like it is it would be better for her to carve a niche than shift from genre to genre, I for one was glad to hear that she had more ballads and meaningful songs but IMO she is oversinging them and the production on some of them is not up to par. Yes she is showing artistry in doing what she wants (incorporating the 70s-80s sound into some of the songs) but Artist like A.Keys, Adele, and even her little sister Solange have proven that you can do an album with that sound and not be boring.

Well honestly, when Beyonce was those girls age that I keep seeing in this BEYONCE post, she was having mad success too. She’s not getting any younger.

I hate how people want her to come out with something new, then they get mad when its a new direction. This CD is a lot more grown, and focus on lyrics a bit more. RTW was just a fluke.

On another note, when did artists think it was ok to start doing 9-11 track albums? #recession

How is she shifting from genre to genre? This album has rock and soul influences but at its base its RnB. You say boring, I say it contains the most substantial music Bey has ever recorded. The production on this is excellent – edgy, rockish, moody guitars, heavy drum beats, dynamic horn arrangements with complex harmonies. You say she’s over-singing, I call this vocally impressive. Beyonce can blow…she put LIVE VOCALS on this, no studio effects and that’s why I rarely listen to her studio albums…only the live audio from her concerts.

FYI, this music industry which continues to pander to charts with frustratingly vapid pop music, can kick rocks. I’m not here for static RnB and dumb club anthems either. Versatility and complexity does not equal not finding a niche. And regardless of how many units she moves, I’m here for the music (as u can see from your correction, I don’t really keep up with stats like that).

Adele’s album has 3 standout tracks, and the rest are a boring puddle of depressing ballads. Her debut album ‘19’ was much better. A Keys last 2 albums were utterly regressive…and as a fan I’m disappointed, because I know she can do better. Adele and A Keys have proved nothing…sorry.

Beyonce went of Contemp R&B/Hip Hop (DIL n B’day) to Euro Pop (IASF) to straight R&B/Soul those are three different genres with three different audiences, thats what I mean by genre hopping.

And Im sorry but album sale wise and critically the majority seem to disagree with you on both Adele and A.Keys (although I admit her last album was a little lazy with the exception of a few songs). And no album with only 3 good songs sales 100,000 just about every week since its debut in February. 21 is a great album and the sales are proving that she has the highest sales this year even beating GaGa so I would say shes proven quite a bit…you’re forgiven.

Lol…one thing I’m sure of is that Beyonce’s last 2 albums have outsold A Keys last 3 albums world wide. She has sold 75 million copies as a solo artist. what did you think Billboard give her that award for?

I maintain my position that although Adele’s ’21′ is quality music I find it boring..so I’m responding to your assertion that ’4′ is boring while ’21′ isn’t.

But the ‘majority’ disagrees with me about ’21′ that’s why it’s still selling…but who are u to say what they’ll think about ’4′…or what this album will do in the long run? I concede that it may very well not meet Adele’s numbers but you’re not psychic so you can’t presume what will happen with her latest effort.

More and more I’m beginning to realize Beyonce is an Artist’s artist ie if u’re involved in music making you would fully appreciate how great she really is at what she does, go ask Adele, Ledisi, Rihanna, Gaga… The list goes on. ’4′ might not be a huge commercial success but its my best Bey album. Y’all need to hear ‘Schoolin Life’ and ‘Dance for you’ if you haven’t.

@ Lady Bee – It’s too bad that you feel you have to stoop to name-calling just to defend your favorite artist. All I said was that she’s had some major promotion. That was my opinion. Self-control skills might be in order for you, because you seem really enraged about something as petty as an unknown person’s opinion. Why does that bother you, seriously? I wasn’t bashing Beyonce, I was was merely speaking sensibly. She does not re-invent herself and she continues to do the same thing each era. How is that not obvious to you. She wants to be like so many people that it’s ridiculous. All I desire is for Beyonce to be herself – like she was in Destiny’s child. Beyonce is not new to me. I have all of destiny’s child cassette tapes (i.e., destiny’s child, writings on the wall, and survivor). The only DC album that I don’t have on cassette is Destiny fulfilled, because obviously, albums on cassette tapes were not being made anymore by the time that album came out. It is not wise to immediately assume that someone is obsessed and/or a hater just because they don’t like something or many things about a particular artist. I think Beyonce is a wonderful singer, a great dancer when she follows choreography, and an overall excellent entertainer. I mean, come on, she’s spoken of in the same breath as Tina and Michael. I respect that because I think she is talented on their level. I have nothing but respect and love for Beyonce. She hasn’t done anything to me. I don’t even know her and she sure as hell doesn’t know me. So anyways… As MJ said, let’s communicate with love, L.O.V.E. It’s the only thing that will bring us together at the end of the day.
