I’ve heard many different and rather interesting renditions of the Jackson 5 classic ‘I’ll Be There’. None of which have come remotedly close to what Mariah Carey delivered with the track earlier on in her career. When Melanie Fiona performed it yesterday at Michael Jackson’s hand & footprint ceremony, she may very well have snagged herself some new fans in the process.
What makes her version easy to appreciate is that she didn’t try to switch it up with unnecessary tricks, bells and whistles. Fiona stayed close to the original vocal arrangement and did what she could towards a beautifully sung tribute. Check out the R&B songstress paying homage to her idol at Grauman’s Chinese Theatre in Los Angeles after the jump.
