Jennifer Hudson tributed her idol Whitney Houston last night with a stunning rendition of ‘I’ll Always Love You’. If you’re wondering why Chaka Khan wasn’t up there as initially reported, it’s because she felt it was too soon and backed out. Jen on the other hand, her tone was too heavy for this song, but it didn’t matter because she did great.
I liked that she kept it nice and simple and decided not to go overboard with the high notes.
Her restraint was very appreciated, because she was not trying to show the world she could belt out a Whitney classic. The tribute was thrown together at the last minute prior to Whitney only passing away the night before. We can definetely expect the BET Awards to do a much longer tribute in June.
