New Music Video: Goapele – ‘Tears On My Pillow’…

Goapele reminds us that letting go isn’t as easy as it seems with her latest music visual for new single ‘Tears On My Pillow’. The Bobby Ozuna-produced track is lifted from her latest new album ‘Break of Dawn’. As for the John Mazyck-directed clip, she kept it simple yet artistic at the same time. Although not as visually compelling as ‘Play’, I certainly liked what she did with it. And if you have an appreciation for a good R&B/Soul joint about the complexities of lost love, you will certainly enjoy this one. Get into the music video below.

Christina Aguilera is taking her sweet precious time with her new album, confirming that the hotly anticipated project will be out a little bit later than expected.

She was interviewed backstage by her ‘Voice’ co-star and social media correspondent Christina Milian. Aggy claims that with ‘The Voice’ taking up much of her time, she’s had to change pace as far as the new album is concerned citing “later this year” for its release. After the interview, the two Christina’s sat courtside at the LA Lakers game in Los Angeles the night before (Xtina is even seen wearing the same dress). Good to know she’s taking her time with the album. Quality over quantity any day of the week for me. I also saw some new candids today and she’s definitely lost some weight. She’s also been giving Nicki Minaj some serious competition in the bootylicious department as well. A brand new single could very well be just around the corner.

Drake hints at Aaliyah collaboration…

I’ve never seen an artist stan for another artist the way Drake stans for Aaliyah. I’d say it was cute if she were still alive but now I find his public obsession a tad bit creepy.

Drake has tattooed her face on his back, sampled her song on his debut album ‘Thank Me Later’, dedicated a poem and an open letter to her and has admitted his love for her. Not just love as in, what she stood for as an artist but REAL romantic feelings type of love. The 25-year-old rapper, who is currently on his UK tour, spoke to Tim Westwood about having some “great Aaliyah news coming soon”. He was asked to confirm whether it was for a posthumous project which would see him use some of her unreleased recordings, but he just revealed that whatever he had planned would be special and that it would signify “great things for music”. I have a lot of respect for Drake BUT, please leave this one alone.

Snapshot: Rihanna covers ‘Friday’ magazine…

Rihanna has just touched down in Japan to promote her new movie ‘Battleship’, and here is her latest cover for Swiss magazine ‘Friday’. It probably has to be the worst magazine cover I have ever seen from Rihanna, and usually, this chick is super photogenic. When she was posting those bikini photos of herself doing her work-out some months back, I thought she looked amazing. But I think she’s taking her new weight loss to scary extremes. That arm. I just can’t.

Alexandra Burke announces second new single…

The follow-up to Alexandra Burke‘s top 3 debuting UK single ‘Elephant’ is on its way. For it has been announced that she will release second single ‘Let It Go’ on May 27th, 2012.

The uptempo number comes from an awaited upcoming second album which will be drenched in 90s-influenced dance music, according to the singer. Could this be a pop masterpiece? Or is this just another heavily auto-tuned number identical to the hordes of dance singles on the radio right now? I’m inclined to go with the latter, but will gladly give credit if deserved. Burke’s new album will be released later this year on RCA although a tentative release date has yet to be announced.

Pop pin-up Justin Bieber is set to have his girl fans in a tizzy with the music video teaser for new single ‘Boyfriend’.

The newly cloned Justin Timberlake is smashing with the track, which is lifted from his upcoming new album ‘Believe’. Shortly after its digital release, ‘Boyfriend’ simultaneously went to #1 in 32 countries. Bieber’s new single ‘Boyfriend’ will be released in the UK on May 20th, and he promises fans that the music video for the track will be “epic”.

Until then, you can check out a 20-second teaser for the hotly anticipated music visual after the jump.

Chris Brown debuted his new R&B single ‘Sweet Love’ this week, and now he’s unveiled the official cover for it.

Breezy has been looking quite dapper in these suits for the latest promotional era, and here, he surrounds himself with a bevy of scantily-clad leggy females. The song is decent for what it is, and will be used as a marketing tool to spearhead his new album ‘Fortune’. The project will tentatively drop in stores on May 8th.

What do you think about the artwork?

With the help of Kanye West, Cassie’s new single ‘King Of Hearts’ recieved an extra reworking needed to make it a certified hit.

Earlier this year in London, Kanye’s short stint as DJ Yeezy World Peace, saw him spin the record on his turntables so it was evident he was feeling the track from day one. It comes as no surprise that he’s put his own spin on the record. There’s no new verse from him, but he does add more clappier sounds, buzzier synths, and a harder knock with the tribal elements. The subtlety of Cassie’s voice with the progressive beat bodes really well and although it’s not anything spectacular, the remix itself is not a bad effort from him at all. Although the track was digitally made available in February, it was only serviced to US Rhythmic radio two weeks ago and Cassie has been tweeting quite a lot about rehearsals (rumour has it, and I put major emphasis on the word *RUMOUR* is that she will perform the song on ‘American Idol’).

It’s too early to count the song out as a flop just yet but promotion hasn’t been that strong to be honest. Hopefully, more is being done to help the song implode into the hit that it rightfully deserves.

Review: The Saturdays – ‘30 Days’…

UK girl group The Saturdays premiered their brand new single ’30 Days’ yesterday morning on BBC Radio 1, courtesy of the Chris Moyles Breakfast show.

The girls are gearing up to release the song on May 14th, which comes as quite the surprise given that their latest album ‘On Your Radar’ flopped and dropped harder than a brick falling from the sky. As of March 28th, the album has sold a measly 52,150 copies since its release last November. For some reason, girl groups have become extinct here on UK shores. The Sugababes scrapped their comeback last year when no one showed an interest in their new single, then resulting in the song being pulled to save further embarassment. Girls Aloud are currently on a break. And Little Mix are in limbo until X Factor returns this Autumn. So, they pretty much had the scene to themselves to leave their blueprint but sadly, their music still remains reductive as ever. Continuing their forray into dancey electropop territory, ’30 Days’ is a Steve Mac-penned and produced cut that sees the girls counting down the days they get to be with their fellas.

The balladry lyrics are accompanied by an Ibiza-style fusion of electronic synths and club beats. Sonically, it’s just as dance oriented as the rest of what they released this era. Generic mush, with a lacking melody. But if that’s your cup of tea, the song, as well as a five-track iTunes EP is available to pre-order here.

Rihanna sheds light on forthcoming seventh studio album…

Kevin Hennebert is a familiarity to Rihanna Navy because they know he works for her team, and he tweeted today that she will more than likely release her seventh studio album in 2013.

Although, that may seem like a century by Rihanna standards, the “break” has not stopped her from mapping out her musical direction for the project. “I’m definitely thinking about the next record.” Rihanna told Capital FM‘s showbiz reporter Kevin Hughes last night (March 29th). “I’m a multi-tasker so, right now we’re working on collecting and creating the sound first before we even start working on the lyrical direction or melodies. I kind of have an idea though, and it’s very rough right now. So I’m eager to start that”. Rihanna has been in London this entire week promoting her new movie ‘Battleship’, so talk of new music seemed the furtherest from her mind. Until now. Whether or not we get new music this year, Rihanna has been quite smart jumping on high profile collabs to garner momemtum. I assume, we will be seeing Rihanna doing multiple guest features since the rest of 2012 will be a non-musical era for the Barbadian beauty. People would assume this news makes me sad but it doesn’t. I think its commendable she is taking a break for like the first time.

One thing I’d hate for her is to be deemed overexposed (if she isn’t already). A time capsule on when she releases music is unnecessary because no one is forcing anyone to listen to her records. You have the option to change the channel, switch off the radio and not read any of her magazine features. If the music is good, Rihanna could bring out an album every six months and people would still eat it up relentlessly.
