Alicia Keys is preparing to release her fifth studio album, and has just released this brand new promo photo, as well as a brand new track titled ‘New Day’. The track serves up some mean drums, and you can tell that the production was done by husband Swizz Beatz (his drum heavy beats were evident with that ill-fated Alicia and Beyonce duet ‘Put It In A Love Song’). The upbeat cut doesn’t really move me, but would go down a storm at the clubs. Therefore, no one would pay the slightest bit of attention that AK’s vocals are no longer what they use to be. Then again, there’s not much range in the song for her to showcase what she can deliver vocally anyway.
At least ‘New Day’ is bouncing with excitement and conveys a message about happiness and fulfillment of life, so it’s just brewing with positivity and inspiration. I can’t stress enough how much I miss that deep-rooted soul Alicia use to bring with her albums but I still hold hope that there will be a lot of other great tunes on the record that will cater more to my tastes.
