Ashanti drops a new single, titled ‘No One Greater’. The track features two of raps heaviest hitters French Montana and man of the moment Meek Mill, which is lifted from her new album ‘Braveheart’. Ashanti and Irv Gotti have clearly settled their differences after their public falling out. For this track was produced by him and 7, two people who helped create magic for her in the past! Gotti was the one to assist Ashanti in the earlier years of her career, even signing her up to his Murder Inc label where she became a dominant R&B force. ‘No One Greater’ sounds like a typical Ashanti record but it’s not really that catchy. It sounds demo-ish and might even be lacking in some bass. The track, which sees the singer berating a commitment-phobic man, has a little more potential than her Busta Ryhmes-asssisted lead single ‘The Woman You Love’, and that’s only because it doesn’t sound as dated.

The track itself is a grower (not groundbreaking) but Ashanti really needs to step it up in terms of material. She might have been able to pull this off if she had a major label backing, but she will continue to struggle if the music is not on par whilst being independent. Her forthcoming album ‘Braveheart’ has allegedly been pushed back to January 1st 2013, but will this be enough for Ashanti to turn things around? In my opinion, the track is still not strong enough but sometimes a hot guest feature can make all the difference. We shall see.
