Grammy winner, Jennifer Hudson spoke to the souls of every person in the audience last night. The singer performed at the 4th of July special in Boston and Hudson’s alter ego Effie White smacked the church into every one of those appeasing ears. Her Dreamgirls anthem ‘And I Am Telling You’ with the Boston Pops on the Esplanade was delivered with so much power and range. Don’t ask me why she sang her trademark Weight Watchers jingle ‘Feeling Good’. It’s the 4th of July, a time where people want to eat their turkey, mac ‘n’ cheese, enjoy some champagne and still “feel good” about themselves. The performances were stunning and highlighted her obvious title as one of today’s celebrated vocalists but her limited selection of songs are becoming a tad bit tedious.

Notice how these are the only songs she seems to perform at high profile events? I know it makes sense to perform the tracks that highlight your most career-defining moments but it shows just how restricted her catalog of personable and smash singles really are. This is a problem Beyonce would never have to encounter.
