Janelle Monáe has confirmed in the September 2012 issue of Vanity Fair that her forthcoming new album is titled, ‘The Electric Lady’. Janelle debuted the title track (and reported new single) live at the Toronto Jazz Festival back in June. In November, Monáe said in an interview that the follow-up to 2010′s debut , ‘The ArchAndroid’ will be released “according to her soul clock”. Whatever that’s supposed to imply, we can only hope she means very soon.

In her interview with VF, Janelle discusses how she got discovered, along with the revelation that both her parents were janitors, as well as how she was able to develop her musical skills. The retro groove ‘Electric Lady’ is a clear nod to Jimmy Hendrix and drowns in all of its disco-funk glory. It sounds amazing! You can watch Janelle performing the track after the jump.
