Damn monica did better with no promo and no Hit!!!!!

This has nothing to do with the decline in R&B, more so than the album (and it’s proceeded singles) not being good. Brandy can do better. She knows it & we know it. That coupled with the fact that a majority of her so called fans bootlegged the album to show their “support”.

If I were to hear anything off this album, which sounded like one long track of production, it would be ‘Wish Away Your Love’. Heard it on the radio and it sounds delightful. One of two songs I actually cared for on the album.

I was gonna say that Monica did better, but I didn’t even wanna start that fight lol.

I can’t honestly think of any. But I can’t think of many in any genre that aren’t super major artists that do well. It’s a decline in the industry and the lack of quality. Brandy had no real hit and her promo was subpar. To pull less than New Life numbers when you had ‘aggresive’ promo only shows that your era was doomed from jump. That promo should have AT LEAST left her at the 100K mark.

PIT should have been sent to pop and she should have hit up more mainstream radio station and do interviews (z100).

Other than that, idk bc PIT was a good first single bc it was youthful and fresh.

Let’s be real she depended too much on “Put it down” to sell her album. Don’t forget her core fans weren’t really happy with the change in sound. The album IMO isn’t bad but it’s clear her vocals take a back seat to the heavy production. I don’t want to say this but I felt she “thirsted” more for a hit on this album than actually trying to sell her whole album.

I guess i’m going to be the only one to say this. two eleven WAS NOT a good album. Brandy went wayyyyyy to far off the richter with this here. While I appreciate brandy trying to reinvent herself, the album sounded like a girl finding herself. Not a woman cementing her legacy. I had to check several times just to make sure who I was listening to. Her greatest asset her vocals were drowned out by heavy bass and synthesizing. Not mention how she sounded like she was begging for her boyfriend. I would sure hate it for her if he don’t marry her after the way she put herself out there with this. Bottom line Monica went to soft on her cd and Brandy went to somewhere i don’t even know. the difference is Monica did keep her soulful roots and didnt allow her voice to be drowned out by immature music tricks.

Mickey and Happy are on point! So true! It wasn’t that good of an album and she really tried pushing Put It Down too much. She had a lot of us on this very blog scratching our heads when she decided to release the video for this months after the song was released. Whenever she did perform, she performed that song when it was clear that the song was a flop. Smh hopefully this will be a steady seller but I doubt it.

Brandy’s Team is to blame. I would of had her go on tour with Monica first so she gain gain fans back. She should have spent this year touring. Artist should now learn that never release the first single unless you have plans for it. Pid should have been a summer smash it was released in may. She should have been on late night shows performing in may to promote the single. The video should of been released right after the bet awards. Wildest dreams should have been released with a bus early Sept. I think artist and their teams need to be more assertive with their approaches.

The album is good at best it’s not classic and definitely not gonna last like her others, she may hate Human but at least she had a cohesive sound WITH lyrics that mattered. Afrodisiac is my favorite album from her and this album doesn’t know if it wants to be Afrodisiac or Full Moon. Her vocals are the best thing about an average album.

Also, why the hell did the label not aggressively promote ‘Put it Down’ on mainstream pop/top 40 radio? Wildest Dreams would never catch on on pop radio hell it might not even do well on R&B/Hip Hop but Put it Down could have.

Hmmm. These comments are… interesting.
People have been all over blogs, twitter, etc showing this album mad love, not to mention that this album has received critical acclaim so I guess it’s different strokes for different folks. This album is one of the best R&B releases this year, and it’s one of Brandy’s best efforts in years so it would be a shame if this album didn’t do good in the long run. I for one think this album has the potential to go gold if promoted properly. While there may not be many Top 40 singles, there are plenty of songs on this album capable of smashing urban radio the same way “PID” did. Speaking of “Put It Down” lets be mindful that while the song was released earlier this summer, it only started gaining momentum in the later part of summer. Everyone doesn’t spend their time on blogs so most people never heard the song until July/August. With that said, the song is #1 on Urban, and it’s rising on Rhythmic which means it could crossover to pop. So to those saying that she tried to ride the coattails of “Put It Down,” that’s because the song is still gaining so why would she abandon it now. Anyway, I’m not surprised with the numbers. While I would have liked higher first weeks sales, Brandy hasn’t released music in years, and we all know in today’s music climate you have to release music annually or at least every 2 years (i.e. Rihanna) to stay relevant. If artists like Usher and Chris Brown are only managing to push 130K their first week while releasing pop (and R&B) songs, why downplay Brandy for having lower sales when she’s sticking solely to R&B? And if you don’t think these sales have anything to do with a decline in R&B, get real. Compare the opening numbers for the biggest pop stars with the biggest R&B Stars (who are strictly R&B) and tell me there’s no difference.

Also I disagree that the album received “aggressive promo.” It did receive a good push of promo the week of it’s release, but it was hardly aggressive.
And to answer Toya’s question, I think the next single should be “Slower.” It would make for a good remix with a male R&B singer. Besides Slower, “Without You”, “Do You Know What You Have”, and maybe even “Hardly Breathing.” But IMO there are so many quality songs on this album that I feel the album can have life for at least a year and go gold.

From the title to the album art and the singles, this project feels VERY dated and irrelevant. She needed to re-invent herself and stand out. At least then we can say she had a decent effort in the face of low sales.

The album had no bangers – lets be real that was the downfall. The album is good, but it’s all mid-tempos and slow jams and Brandy is known for bringin the heat. Where was the What About Us?, Baby, Afrodiasiac, U Don’t Know Me (Like U Use To) tracks on the album. This is what has been lacking in this album and Human. Her albums usually have a full side of umptempo hits and really that was the downfall of this album and Human. It has nothing to do with the state of R&B. Even Afrodiasiac could have sold better if she chose a better 1st single in my opinion.

People were not feeling this era due to a divided Chris Brown assisted single and a poorly chosen 2nd single that made consumers question the album direction. Singles are made to support the album and excitement for the project started to fade. Who chose the tracklist? Who chose the singles? Who puts Can You Hear Me Now and Music as bonus tracks? This project had potential, but failed on points that easily could have been rectified.

I think the fact that she waited 4 years between releases may have contributed – you can’t do that in this day n age n get away with it, regardless of who you are.
That said, I think these numbers are respectable.
Would have been nice to see her do some European promotion too as she has a massive fanbase over here, half of which are probably not aware of the release of Two Eleven.

This is suchhhh a great album. Critics praise it everwhere. Even on blog comments on all kinds of blogs nobody had bad things to say. She sounds more amazing then ever, the lyrics and production are there. It’s better then any other r&b album this year (with great efforts from Elle Varner, Melanie Fiona and Miguel. Trey Songz made a return to his better sound and Chris Brown went for more r&b and urban pop cuts this time around too)

It wasn’t really aggressive promo. Just some performances of a song not for the audiences she gave them too ( Good Morning America aired the “Put it Down” performance and put “Wildest Dreams” online. “Wildest Dreams” is clearly the better single and if “Put it Down” didn’t have Chris Brown on it it’d be a buzz single.

She was coasting with “Afrodisiac” promotion after being a new mother and coming off the platinum “Full Moon” , and “Human” was too overshadowed by personal drama as well. She really believes in “Two Eleven” and you can see it in the album and performances and she won’t let this one slide..

“Wildest Dreams” video should’ve premiered 2 weeks ago, but when it does come out it will boost the sales and I see her finishing with gold. While she appealed to mainstream tv she didn’t go on top 40 radio stations. No z100, no pop festivals/tours. With a song like “So Sick” she could’ve fit that mold more.

She did lots of press/magazines last week while her album was out and some of that stuff won’t surface until November issues , along with a televised performance (Thats not for a tv series). With her movies and tv show appearances continuing this album won’t go down quickly. With all the acclaim it’s due for Grammy nods too.

She should release a ballad or low tempo song like “Do You Know What You Have” or “No Such Thing as Too Late” or “Without You” . It’s a good cuddle/cuffin season song that’s a statement and I can see people not being too sure who sings it at first but loving it, also “Scared of Beautiful” but the radio play…idk might be too slow of a song.

Not only is Brandy relevant, but absolutely, undeniably necessary so lets put her sales numbers aside for a second.

Each song delivers a piece of Brandy – vulnerable, yet defiantly strong and beautiful – she puts it all out there with sweet nods to being a woman, fully in love, unafraid of her sexuality, and tenderly appreciating the blessings of her life. Um I just had to post again after reading some of these comments “aggressive” promo HA! that’s a laugh! This album which I bought 2 of them was clearly, poorly promoted.
