In several parts of the world, New Year’s Day has already arrived, and Leona Lewis was on hand to perform at China’s CCTV New Year’s gala to ring in 2013. The 27-year-old did not perform any tracks from her warmly-received new album ‘Glassheart’, and instead opted to belt out ‘I See You’ and her first ever smash hit ‘Bleeding Love’. Leona gave pure diva power with the vocals and she shimmered in a blue cut-out gown by Ariella Couture which exuded old school Hollywood glam. Watch Ms Lewis deliver a soaring performance below.

Well, isn’t this a nice way to kick off 2013? Fantasia may have committed career suicide after making unfavourable comments about the legalisation of marijuana and same sex marriage. On Instagram, she rants about “the world going mad” and backs up her arguments by sourcing the bible. She then makes a statement about folk going against biblical morals while others stay judging her. She was referencing the high barrage of criticism she received for sleeping with a married man and having a baby with him, while aborting another. Not a smart career move from her given that a large portion of her fanbase is gay. Check out her illiterate rant below.

UPDATE: We knew damage control was underway, as is normally the case whenever a celebrity puts their foot in mouth. The singer now says her comments were taken out of context. On December 30th, Chris Brown performed at a Peace concert in Abidjan, Ivory coast. This was the final show of his ‘Carpe Diem’ tour before he spends New Years with his sweetheart Rihanna. Earlier that day, the on-again couple were seen stepping off a plane as they prepared for his last show. Rihanna looked very casual in sweatpants and sunglasses. It was initially reported that Breezy was in town for the KORA Awards (African Grammys) but the committee announced that he wouldn’t be able to receive his award because he was performing at the Peace concert, which was held at the same time. Instead they broadcasted a video of him performing a high octane showing of ‘She Ain’t You’ at the Felix stadium last night.

On December 30th, Kelly Rowland performed a private set at Rain Nightclub in the Palms Hotel & Casino, Las Vegas. For her red carpet appearance, she wore a red hot leopard print top and sexy leather pants, but later changed into a form fitting dress to perform a couple of fan favourites. Crowds soaked up the atmosphere with their glow sticks as the end of 2012 edged closer. We’ve known about it for weeks, prior to several songwriters spilling the beans (Elijah Blake, Ina Wrolsden). However, the icing was not complete until hearing it from the horses mouth. Britney Spears has confirmed on Twitter that she is working on her eighth studio album. She wrote that she is “really focused on her music right now”, as well as expressing excitement at collaborating with “some new inspiring producers.” This admission further fuels speculation that she wont be back as a judge on The X Factor amid rumours of her impending sacking. Turns out she’ll be ditched because her ‘nuttier’ side did not come across (she was too boring) and her vocabulary (equivalent to a five-year-old) did not extend much outside of the cliched “amazing”. The big issue that might have sealed her fate is that she failed to bring in ratings and they’re smarting over the fact that they paid her an eye watering $16 million without seeing any results of their massive investment, LOL.

She’s coming! Beyonce gets in touch with her inner thug diva in this latest snap that was posted on her Instagram earlier today. In the snap, Beyonce is rocking some earrings, with the word ‘Ratchet’ embedded inside. The fact that this is the second photo she has posted of the earring has sharp eyed fans believing she is sending serious hints about her new music. A few months ago, Lady Gaga told fans on her own website that she wrote a song with Azealia Banks called ‘Ratchet’ which would feature a female collaborator. Along with that admission came a photo of Gaga wearing the exact same ‘Ratchet’ earrings. Excited fans are now believing that Beyonce and Gaga have collaborated once again for their new eras. Personally, I think it’s all too good to be true and the disappointment will kick in once it’s discovered that this is all just a big fat (rather smart) coincidence, but who knows? In more speculation, rumour is rife that two new Beyoncé songs are being tested across several Top 40 stations.

Mariah Carey‘s family travels extended to Queensland, Australia on December 29th. The mother of all all divas went on a sailing trip with husband Nick Cannon and their adorable twins. MC wore strappy heels and a slitted formal red gown as they exited a yacht and walked around the Great Barrier Reef, the largest coral system in the world. Mariah is currently in Australia to perform three concerts on January 1st, 3rd, and 5th. I’m not really feeling her dress as it just doesn’t look good on her body. Thanks to the stomach bulge, she looks real frumpy. The heels are so wrong for such a casual outing. A nice pair of flats and some jeans would not have killed. Poor Nick. If I was a man and THAT was my wife, she’d drive me crazy. Honestly, she is so extra, but as we all know, it’s Mariah gotdamn Carey.

Rihanna performed on French TV show ‘La Meilleure Chanson de l’Année’ on December 10th. During the elegant showing which was broadcast earlier tonight, she looked quite ravishing in a pink two-piece skirt and top combo. Though her ‘Diamonds’ performance was pre-recorded, at least she is showing us progression this era. We prefer that as opposed to seeing her naked ass every now and then, an ass that has become the brunt of discussion this weekend.

After US Weekly first reported of Brandy‘s engagement to music executive boyfriend Ryan Press, the singer made the news official to Entertainment Tonight through her rep. In the past, Brandy has always gushed about Ryan being the man that made her believe in love again, so it’s only fitting that they make honest people out of each other. Brandy’s latest album ‘Two Eleven’ was dedicated to him so much that she was literally encouraging him to take that step. A decade ago, Brandy had a faux-marriage to music producer Robert Smith, father to her 10-year-old daughter Sy’rai, so thankfully, this one will be the real deal. After confirming the news, Brandy and Ryan jetted off to Hawaii to celebrate. The pair got engaged over the Christmas holiday and we could not be more happy for them!

Pepsi and Beyonce team up to invite fans to join her on the field for her Pepsi Super Bowl XLVII Halftime Show on February 3rd. Beginning on Saturday, December 29th, fans are encouraged to submit photos of specific “poses” in hopes of being selected for a chance of a lifetime – to appear in an on-air introduction welcoming Beyonce to the stage for the Halftime Show. Selected photos will be used to introduce the performance. Also, those that submitted their photos by January 11th will be entered into a drawing for a chance to be one of 50 lucky fans selected to join Beyonce on stage. The show is set to be the hottest ticket in town but it is still a closely guarded secret as to what she has planned for the hotly anticipated performance!
