New Single: Janelle Monáe feat. Erykah Badu – ‘Q.U.E.E.N.’

Serving up what may be one of this year’s hottest summer anthems, Janelle Monáe teams up with Erykah Badu on ‘Q.U.E.E.N’, the first single off her upcoming new album ‘The Electric Lady’.

The colourful personalities of both R&B divas blast through on the super funky ladies anthem comprising 80′s pop, Hip hop and some jazz. It’s all gratified energy from beginning to end before the track closes out with Janelle spitting some mean bars about the bootay. “Q.U.E.E.N. was inspired by private discussions between Erykah and me. It is meant to make you JAM. DANCE. FUNK OUT and dialogue later…” she tweeted. Jamming, dancing and funking out is certainly what I’ll be doing over the summer. Gotta love how original and fresh this track really is.

Watch: Janelle Monáe tributes Jimi Hendrix on ‘Fallon’…

The good news? Janelle Monáe tributed the legendary Jimi Hendrix on ‘Late Night with Jimmy Fallon’ last night. The bad news? Janelle did not sing any of her own/new music. The performance was to celebrate the release of Jimi’s latest posthumous album ‘People, Hell & Angels’. While we continue to wait patiently for Janelle’s new album, the CoverGirl delivered an absolutely beautiful rendition of the late legend’s ‘Little Wing’. The track is lifted from Jimi’s 1967 album release ‘Axis: Bold as Love’, and she received some assistance from the show’s housing band The Roots. Guitarist Kellindo Parker shredded his instrument with an absolutely smoking solo. But it was Janelle’s emotional vocals that stood out so much that even the hardest of people could be reduced to tears.

Even though Janelle remixes ‘Suit & Tie’ every damn day with that same tux, know this: when she plays the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in two weeks time, fans won’t be disappointed. She is always guaranteed to deliver performances as breathtaking as these.

Watch: Janelle Monáe performs ‘Sincerely Jane’ at Afro Punk Fest…

After being introduced to the crowd by a very complimentary Pharrell Williams, dancing queen Janelle Monáe took to the stage last night to perform her ‘Metropolis: Suite I (The Chase)’ banger ‘Sincerely Jane’. The performance took place on the second day of Brooklyn’s Afro Punk Fest (August 26th).

Ahead of launching a full scale promo campaign for upcoming new album, ‘The Electric Lady’, the pompadoured beauty delivered an amazing set, moonwalking across the stage (no lie), sanging her ass off, dancing her heart out and just literally killing the stage. On top of that, she is making serious moves elsewhere having added spokesmodel to her resume. CoverGirl has selected the gorgeous 26-year-old to represent their cosmetics line, and putting her in the latest ranks of Taylor Swift and Pink as the brand’s ultimate face.

Janelle Monáe has confirmed in the September 2012 issue of Vanity Fair that her forthcoming new album is titled, ‘The Electric Lady’. Janelle debuted the title track (and reported new single) live at the Toronto Jazz Festival back in June. In November, Monáe said in an interview that the follow-up to 2010′s debut , ‘The ArchAndroid’ will be released “according to her soul clock”. Whatever that’s supposed to imply, we can only hope she means very soon.

In her interview with VF, Janelle discusses how she got discovered, along with the revelation that both her parents were janitors, as well as how she was able to develop her musical skills. The retro groove ‘Electric Lady’ is a clear nod to Jimmy Hendrix and drowns in all of its disco-funk glory. It sounds amazing! You can watch Janelle performing the track after the jump.
