The King of Pop would have celebrated his 54th birthday, yesterday. However, the celebration went on and to commemorate Michael Jackson‘s legacy and astonishing contributions to music, R&B stars such as Ne-Yo and Melanie Fiona paid tribute. The show, which was in collaboration with Pepsi and Billboard, saw both stars take to the stage to perform songs from their own back catalogue, as well as some of MJ’s classics. The Summer Beats concert took place at Gotham Hall on August 29th in New York City.
Melanie opted to perform ‘Dirty Diana’ and ‘Bad’, while Ne-Yo opted to perform ‘I Just Can’t Stop Loving You’, ‘The Way You Make Me Feel’ and ‘Smooth Criminal’. If you’ve ever followed Ne-Yo closely, you will know he has always been an MJ imitator right down to the very last detail, so all this was second nature to him. Melanie on the other hand, actually surprised me.
