Grammy week kicks off with the 4th Annual Essence ‘Black Women in Music’ event which took place last night in West Hollywood. Solange was honoured at Greystone Manor Supperclub where she entertained guests with music from her ‘True’ EP. Some of R&B’s leading ladies were in attendance, including Kelis, Jill Scott, Dawn Richard, Tamia and Estelle. All of them were there to celebrate their fellow females. This week, Tamia opened up R. Kelly‘s ‘Single Ladies’ tour stop in Atlanta at the Fox Theatre (October 19th). Tamia’s set included songs from her new album ‘Beautiful Surprise’, as well as some of her older hits. One of those being ‘Stranger In My House’ where she pulls up a guy from the audience, and serenades him. She sounded incredible. As always. Watch the action below.

Tamia is in love and that side to her totally consumes her new album, ‘Beautiful Surprise’. One song from the project that I recommend is ‘Lose My Mind’, produced by The Runners. The track is about missing your significant other when they’re not around. The groovy, bass-filled production of pounding drums and finger-snaps combined with Tamia’s soft voice create a flawless chemistry.

Tamia has been on her promo grind lately, doing more promotion for ‘Beautiful Surprise’ (album and single), by hitting up Atlanta’s Taboo 2 Bistro & Bar in Atlanta. There, she performed the title track, and delivered yet another stunning performance in WCIU studios of Chicago.

This week, Tamia reunites with Eric Benet to perform their classic wedding duet ‘Spend My Life’ on TV One’s ‘Verses & Flow’. As many of you would know, Tamia released her stunning new album ‘Beautiful Surprise’ this week, so she did a spot of promotion, and even performed the title track too. It was nice to see her and Eric back on stage again after all these years (damn that man is STILL fiiiine, lol). I couldn’t get enough of this song in 1999, and 13-years later I still can’t get enough of it.

It’s performances like these that not only brings back an appreciation for authentic R&B music but heightens it too. Although it is no longer selling like it use to, there are still many oldschool heads out there that live for it (myself included). On my end, Tamia’s new album will be getting some serious spins in the many months to come. How about you?

If you’re familiar with Tamia‘s 2004 album ‘More’, you’d recognise that she had a song on there entitled, ‘Still’. That very track, produced by Jermaine Dupri, received a country makeover for her forthcoming new album ‘Beautiful Surprise’ (out on Aug 28th). Tamia re-recorded the track in Nashville with songwriter Claude Kelly and a bunch of Nashville country musicians. With less than two weeks to go for the LP’s release, Tamia has now released it.

Yours Truly is not a country fan by any means but Tamia would convert me easily. This is stunning. The woman has vocals that won’t quit, and her sweet, vulnerable voice perfectly captures the tender sentiment of the song. If she were to record a full length country album, I would buy it. No shame. The woman just can’t do anything wrong in my book even when remaking an almost 10-year-old song and dropping it on a new release. Let’s just say, some people wouldn’t be able to get away with that.
